The School of Public Health, situated at the campus of the Albert Schweitzer International University Hospital Center in Lambaréné, was officially launched on Wednesday, October 11th, 2017. The opening ceremony, organized by CERMEL, took place under a hot sun. Amongst the various guests and representatives were the Head of Medicine and Pharmacy Agency (DMP), the German Center for Research on Infectious Diseases (DZIF), the Paul Ehrlich Institute, the University of Vienna, NEPAD, OCEAC and the University of Tübingen.
The researchers invited to this meeting made presentations throughout the week on the various themes related to biomedical research, including clinical trials; and also on public health concerns in a broader sense. These include presentations on Yellow Fever, Ebola virus, Tuberculosis, Bacterial Infections, Malaria Vaccine research, endemic diseases control in Central Africa, Neglected Tropical Diseases, and the conduct and regulation of clinical trials in Africa and in Europe.
This Public Health School is implemented and managed by CERMEL, based on the initiative of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is also a new tool for education and training for health workers in Gabon and Africa.
