On Friday 2nd December 2016, the Minister of Public Health and Population Prof. Léon NZOUBA visited CERMEL as part of activities to mark the World AIDS Day. An important issue is that According to UNAIDS, HIV affects more about 4% of Gabonese population.
Moreover, this visit enabled particular emphasis to be placed on CERMEL TB Laboratory which is a cornerstone in the fight against HIV due to co-infection with TB in many patients. Prof. NZOUBA praised the tireless effort of research teams led by CERMEL scientists, and encouraged them in diagnosis, treatment and care of TB patients in Gabon, including Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB).
Furthermore, the Minister along with his delegation visited the “Centre hospitalier et universitaire de Lambarene”. CERMEL is currently maintaining the site and preparing its future activities in partnership with the Ministry.
