PhD Project CAIDERA: Numerical skills and Behavioural Aspects of Malaria Control (2022-2025)
We are looking for a PhD candidate to investigate whether numerical skills affect behavioral aspects of malaria control including preventive actions and treatment seeking behavior. The main hypothesis is that basic numeric inductive reasoning and cognitive ability help to improve health related behavior (i.e., avoidance of typical infection sources). For this, the research group in which the doctoral will work has developed a special technique of measuring basic numerical abilities. Gender equality, nutrition and health environment variables will be among the crucial background factors that will be studied. The data set for the research work is already available, although it will be welcome to increase the database.
The candidate:
will live in Tuebingen (approximately four years in total) and engage in discussions and teamwork with the department and other colleagues and students within the larger project
You will join a motivated and international research team that allows a lot of discussion about your research (for further information, please see the internet page of our group -- just google Joerg Baten). You would notice how pleasant it is to perform world-class research in a group of doctoral students and postdocs, with tutoring and advice from senior scholars if needed.
For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Gabriele Alex (gabriele.alex@uni-tuebingen.de). Please send your application with the usual documents – cover letter; curriculum vitae; certificates; letter of motivation (1-2 pages); prospective research project proposal within the framework of the project description above (4-5 pages plus bibliography) – in the form of a single pdf document by e-mail to Prof. Dr. Gabriele Alex (gabriele.alex@uni-tuebingen.de) by 01st of December 2021.
Severely disabled persons will be given preferential consideration in case of equal suitability.
The University of Tübingen aims to increase the proportion of women in research and
teaching and therefore invites applications from suitably qualified female academics.
